Meet Dr. Jessica Collins
Dr. Jessica Collins grew up in Fairhaven, MA, which is located on the southernmost coast of Massachusetts. She loved growing up near the beach, and since childhood she has always loved spending time outdoors. Dr. Collins is lucky to have an incredibly supportive family including her parents and older sister. She is also very close with her extended family, who all live in southeast Massachusetts.
Dr. Collins’ interest in orthodontics began when her older sister was undergoing orthodontic treatment. She would let her sit on her lap during her appointments, so Dr. Collins could watch everything that was going on. She later had orthodontic treatment herself and watching the changes in her smile solidified her desire to join this profession. Dr. Collins had the unique opportunity of attending a vocational high school, where she was trained in dental assisting. As a junior in high school, she was employed by her family orthodontist and continued working there as often as she could for six years until beginning dental school at Boston University. Dr. Collins considers this experience an extremely valuable part of her education. She had many responsibilities throughout her employment including sterilization, assisting, lab work, and helping out at the front desk. Her mentors took time to teach her about all aspects of running an orthodontic practice, the knowledge she hopes will aid her throughout her career.
Dr. Collins loved living in Boston for four years during dental school. Her apartment was a five-minute walk from Fenway Park, which was a dream come true for her as she is a huge Red Sox fan! She took every opportunity to attend any Boston sports game and participate in intramural sports with her classmates. She also took a special interest in pre-dental mentoring and research during her time at BU. When it came time for residency, Dr. Collins decided to explore the pacific northwest and moved to Seattle to attend UW! She had a wonderful experience learning from amazing faculty and exploring all the hiking and activities Seattle has to offer. She is excited to be back on the east coast having joined a profession she loves so much.
